Univercell Battery Co. Ltd was established in 1993 by a group of managers from Ever Ready Special Batteries in Telford, U.K. When it became known that ERSB was to be closed down, the team were able to negotiate a long term agreement to supply Ever Ready with a range of Zinc Carbon batteries which were still required by Ever Ready. This was achieved against stiff competition from manufacturers in the Far East.

We have expanded our product range to cover all types of batteries including made-to-order special battery packs. We are able to supply complex battery designs including Intrinsically Safe, encapsulated cells, and special connectors. Now, in 2005, our customer base runs to over 400 customers. Each one is treated as our most important customer!

Key People in the Company:

Howard Betts – Technical Sales Director – has over 30yearsexperience in the battery in the battery industry in R&D, technical, production and sales functions in UK and overseas. Howard is responsible for sales, battery design and maintaining the ISO 9001 quality system approval.

Ivor Upton – Production and Commercial Director - has over 40 yearsin the battery industry in in production and purchasing management functions.

Les Chalker – Engineering Director / Company Secretary – also has over 40 years experience in the battery industry managing all aspects of mechanical, electrical and development engineering activities. Les is responsible for engineering, health and safety and legal compliance matters.

Karen Shirley – Sales Coordinator – Karen liases with customers, processes the incoming sales orders on to our computer system and orders materials for use in production. Karen is the “live wire” in our office!!

Valerie Porteous – Office Administrator – Val looks after the general running of the office including invoicing, payment to suppliers and receiving payments from customers.

Sarah Bradshaw – Accountant – Sarah looks after all accounting matters for the company. Sarah is the “bright spark” in our office!!
